Charlotte Gerrard is a London-based visual artist known for her vibrant, expressive paintings that celebrate nature and cultural diversity. Drawing heavily from her time in India, her work features a bold colour palette and dynamic subjects inspired by the country's rich landscapes, fabrics, animals, and festivals. Charlotte paintings have a depth of colour and expressive, which she describes as a “joyful celebration of nature and cultural diversity.” Charlotte’s paintings, particularly of Indian cows, are rich in texture and colour, often enhanced with powder pigments and gold embellishments. She also uses traditional 'rangoli' stenciling to add depth and detail. Her animal depictions, which capture their individuality and serenity, are both graceful and energetic, reflecting her deep respect for wildlife. These vibrant and unique screen prints form part of a collection called ‘Animals close to me’ and are all one-off pieces inspired by direct meetings with the subjects. By employing exciting neon hues the subjects become heroic in their radiance. The works are hand-pulled in her studio using 'old school' techniques on hinged wooden screens. Editions are very small with each print often varying from the next. Underlying her work is a strong commitment to wildlife conservation. Charlotte’s art serves as a heartfelt call to protect animals and their environments, and she has long collaborated with animal charities, particularly in India.
