ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This digital print from an ink drawing original (The original is available). It is inspired by the landscape drawings of Rembrandt, Claude Lorain, and the German Romantics. I hope the viewer will sense the wildness of nature in the midst of the cultivated farmland of Pennsylvania. The medium of pen and ink allowed the play between the strong black shapes of the tree trunks and small black forms of the leaves. The style while can be initially perceived as realstic becomes more abstract as the delicate flow of the leaves through the strong black branches and trunks is observed.

I am an artist, author, and architect. I wrote the book “The Art Dockuments,” published in 2012, which is portrait of the art community and the arts in Downtown Los Angeles from 1981-1986 told through the lens of the Art Dock, a drive-by loading dock gallery, initiated and curated by me, where the art of 34 LA artists was exhibited. I just finished “Facing Time,” an art and essay project about my’ self-portraits from 1973 to 2019. The book is in preparation for publication in 2020-2021. I wrote many articles about art and art communities. The latest is a series of 5 articles titled “Joan of Art Ghosts the Arts District” published on the WordPress blog, “The Art Doctore,” 2019.
