About The Artwork

Limited Edition giclee paper print from an original oil painting. Dimensions shown are image size, not inclusive of white border. Proofed, signed and numbered by the artist, with certificate of authenticity. Additional sizes and canvas prints also available through artist. When the surrealist painter, Rene Magritte was being interviewed about his early career, he shared a story that became the inspiration for this painting. He took a very short-lived job in a wallpaper factory. The reason being, he said, was “to make Georgette as happy as possible in the calm of a nice steady bourgeois life”. Fortunately, he escaped that mental limitation and went on to become one the 20th century’s most iconic artists. But it made me wonder how many of us sacrifice the risk of following the call of our heart’s desires for comfort and security. Only to reach the end of our lives and perhaps find that we never fully lived.

About the Artist Award-winning oil painter Paul Bond was born in 1964 in Guadalajara, Mexico, and currently lives and works in Southern California and Costa Rica. Paul Bond's art lives in the spaces between dreaming and reality. Drawing from the Latin American genre of Magic Realism, his paintings merge symbolic, surreal and fantastic elements with realistic atmospheres to unveil a world where everything is possible. At times, they simply express a whimsical aspect of life. Yet most works also carry deeper metaphysical and philosophical messages illuminating the world of our dreams and subconscious thoughts, fears and hopes. Bond’s work has won numerous awards and been featured in galleries, museums and cultural centers, including The Gateway Museum and The San Diego Art Institute. His paintings are now in private collections throughout the US, and worldwide. Corporate collections include Fox, Warner Bros and NBC Studios, Royal Caribbean International, Marriott Hotels, Scripps and Stanford Hospitals; and his works are featured in numerous contemporary art publications.
