When I discovered the art of glass in 1974, a journey of artistic and technical possibilities began, inspiring within me a deep and lasting curiosity. Over the past four decades commissioned works have included, interpretive glass art in religious settings, international grand scale architectural stained glass murals in public settings, lighting sculptures and intimate pieces for private settings. The glass art medallions and lighting sculptures featured here incorporate glass techniques developed for large architectural projects. At an intimate scale, these "glass effects " add dimension, spontaneous detail and maximize the kinetic beauty of glass and light. Layers of hand made glass are fused at high temperatures to create sculpted glass jewels. Sandblast etching plays with light and dimension of transparency. Sandblast carving on fused glass jewels gently erodes layers of colored glass creating color change and spontaneous detail. Molten metal soldering techniques combine lead channels with tin, copper and steel at temperatures hot enough to bond metal. The heat must be evenly and quickly moved along to avoid burning away the lead channels, or breaking the glass pieces. Unique artful design, beautiful hand made materials and exquisite craftsmanship, create a medieval yet modern appeal.
