About The Artwork

Water lily, is part of my 'Herbaceous' series. An ongoing exploration and reflection on stages of womanhood, cyclical wisdom and how we can learn from herbaceous plant cycles of rest, emerge and show. Thus far concluding that midlife being a fabulous time of audacity. A time to show who you are and what you can do. Also understanding through observation of plants that rest and growth is important to bloom. My print process starts with paper cutouts where drawing with scalpel and scissors helps to keep my motifs large and open. Each element is inked and laid out into a collage which is then put through an etching press. This time consuming process is fragile and allows for only one impression to be taken leaving a single artwork. I love that building of a picture from paper-cutting to the final impression.

In my artistic journey, I explore traditional techniques of paper cutting and collage to create my vibrant floral original monoprints.  As a ‘late to the party’ self taught printmaker who has explored many processes I have found a love of drawing with scissors to cut motifs to explore the delicate balance between control and spontaneity. The meticulous layering of these elements in a collaged floral tapestry brings depth and dimension to my work. My choice of colour is a deliberate desire to evoke a sense of joy and celebration in the exuberance of the floral world. It is my hope that viewers find testament to the enduring beauty that surrounds us and a reminder to appreciate the absolute joy and hope that flowers bring.
