VIEW IN MY ROOM
Many of my wall sculptures are images of women, mostly nudes. I choose one nude to draw in wire over another based on their pose. I think the best and only way to see the simplicity and beauty of a women is through a figurative outline of her body - where I use as few lines as possible. It draws the viewer into the image. Wire makes it possible for me to shape the nude beyond my original drawing, to make their shape gentler and organic. When I think of it, almost all things natural are rounded; only man-made objects have squares. Wire is very hard to bend into a square. This is a 35 X 35-inch welded wire wall sculpture of a nude. It is made of 3 mm thick (#12 gauge) low carbon steel wire that I bend by hand and weld in numerous spots to assure stability, then powder coat gloss black** with an extremely durable, weather resistant material that makes it suitable for outdoor and indoor wet locations indoors. The sculpture is easily installed on a wall according to instructions I provide. It is designed to hang approximately 2 inches from the wall surface so that it projects a moving shadow. The piece is signed with a thinner wire. I make wire wall sculptures for public, commercial, and residential locations. The wire pieces are the final step in a simplification process that starts with a photograph or group of photographs. I make and remake a digital line drawing to emphasize only the essence and feel of the subject, then, like the poet who reviews every word, I re-examine every turn and curve as I bend the wire into a sculpture. The final installation, a solid line in space in front of a moving shadow, has scale enough to suit a large wall without dominating the room. My work has been purchased by collectors from all over the world. **Other colors are available for a set-up charge of $100. Email me for details.

Bart designs and builds both large and small custom wirewall art using 9 or 12 gauge annealed steel wire. He welds his wall sculptures for strength and stability and has them powder coated with a UV protective covering for endurance. Bart, originally from the Netherlands, graduated from Boston University and attended classes at the NYU, New School for Social Research. Bart’s mediums as an artist have included photography, silk-screen, lithography, acrylics, oils, clay and stained glass. After seeing an exhibit of Alexander Calder’s wire art at the Whitney Museum in NYC., wire became his new medium of choice Bart’s art style is figurative. He says this style helps him to express what’s most important in life, the simplest things, things we cherish. Like holding someone’s hand, taking a bath, watching people at work or kids at play, the beauty of the human figure or the things we enjoyed in our youth now can become our joy. Wire sculptures pictured here are powder coated gloss black. They are also available in color, slightly larger or smaller, with minor changes, using the same drawing as a guide. Inquire for details.
