About The Artwork

“It’s sad how she died, really. All those men poking and prodding. Never really stopped to see if she’d survive it all, poor lamb. Now they keep her there, all dead and rotting. Don’t even seem to care so long as she keeps bringin’ in coins.” - Agnes Hawthorne, Laundress

Kathryn Beesley is a mixed media sculptor whose dark and smokey work focuses on texture and structural decay. Referencing the skeletal nature of Lesley Risby’s sculptural forms a well as the narrative illustrations of artists such as Yoshitaka Amano and Kay Nielsen, Beesley’s sculptures explore the ramifications of a family history of suicide and depression in a culture that treats mental illness as taboo. Born and raised in rural Idaho, Beesley received a BFA from Brigham Young University - Idaho in 2006 and now resides in Boise with her husband and pet carpet python, Evee.
