Sculpture: Wood, Paint, Gesso on Wood, Other.
The sculpture "A circle in motion" was presented in the solo exhibition "Freedom of Form" from the year 2000, in the Gallery Das Atelier in Berlin Germany. In this series of works of sculptures and reliefs the theme is the circle and the diverse possibilities of abstraction and interpretation of the form the circle. This work is made out of solid wood with two hollow wood components, all of the surfaces are highly refined, gilded, painted or treated with traditional techniques. All of the sculptures out of this series are made out of old pine wood from the roof truss`s of various Berliner buildings built in the 1900`s, these buildings were renovated in the nineties and the valuable old pine wood was accessable. This wood has a very distinct character, just one coat of schellac is enough to reveal the depth of tone and structure of this wood. This work has diverse areas that are gilded and painted, the patina accentuates partial areas of the form. The reflective component is an important aspect, from the side view the impression of the form can change, through the gilded surfaces that are either shiny or where the surfaces have a quiet, dull matt tone. This is a combination of natural wood and a configured color scheme, create an impression of lightness and weight.
