AUTUMN SPLENDER Sculpture

When you think of fall, you think of autumn leaves in their splendid colors and of course pumpkins. The pumpkin I crafted is unique in that it's made of copper and will last for ever or until you drop it ( just kidding ) once in a while I stop making birds and concentrate on more traditional ornaments, like pumpkins. You have to be some sort of engineer to design a segmented sphere, well I'm not, but I went for it anyway.designing. it on paper was fairly easy with a compass and all that, but putting it all together was a different story and eventually I stumbled in the right direction and completed a form that resembled a, yes a pumpkin. I use copper in all my work, copper sheeting, copper wire and tubing, forming and joining individual pieces using copper brazing rod. For the heat I use oxy/acetylene that gives me a temperature between two and four thousand degrees F. When completed I give the pumpkin multiple coats of clear lacquer to keep from oxidizing
