ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This, the 4th in the Non-local Movement series, stands as a symbol of mystery. Inspired by a look into quantum mechanics and experiential mysticism, I come upon the topic of insubstantial fields of energy or some other unexplained phenomenon. The topic can be reached also by contemplation on the concepts of infinity and unity. Expressing this concept in sculpture, I use abstract metaphors and essential shapes for the parts making up the whole. Here, the multidirectional movement functions to imply "impossible" simultaneous movement by the same entity in different directions which in turn symbolizes non-locality. At the time of finishing the sketch for this piece, I wrote down some notes about what this piece signifies. Here, I turn those notes into a poem. Untouchable Unity ------------------------------ Pulse without centre, Emitting from nowhere Navigating by starlight, Vast distance, hence time I watch endless space. In dark stillness, the heart beats With its own mind Separated, we are not, Though vast distances lie between us And thoughts do knock with rhythmic beats At their own walls of captivity. For they can never know what lies beyond We remain in contact through eternal waves ~Mike Sasaki 2019
