About The Artwork

The seaplastic was found on my local beach, Mounts Bay here in penzance, Cornwall. We frequently find various types of plastic washed up, this I think is from a driftwood fire as it has the characteristics of having been molten at some stage. I was truck by it's beauty and held onto it for a number of years. Then one day in my studio I was experimenting with simple air dried clay and made a whole series of shapes from my imagination, based broadly on ancient models of bulls and cows i have seen in museums or in books. This one in particular is similar to the cows found in india, Amritmahal, where most people treat them with respect as they are considered 'holy' All my work is made without the use of any animal byproducts or resources, this assemblage is 50% re use and non animal glues were used to make it. Shipped in a box using re use materials too. I use the word Humanimal to encompass my art practice to acknowledge the responsibility we all have as a species to the other species who share this world.
