This sculpture belongs to the series "Eyes-Nose-Mouth", where the sparing use of element reports to cartoon artist as Quino or Mordillo. Also, it relates to a new form of communication - emojis - where the use of the essencial elements of the human face are key to convey intention or emotion to the written text. The artist intention is to create a context where the sculpture proposes a concept ou idea open to interpretation by the viewer, within the confines of the pathos presented. In the case of this piece, the starting point is the idea of Alma mater or Nurturing Mother. It's such a wide concept that everything can be included, and as so, could be use to justify anything.

Sandra Borges is born in 1979 in Lisbon. The sculptor mostly based her work on human behavior. Sometimes looking through the stereotypes, sometimes through the eyes of a individual, it is always about how one's personality is formed and how one relates to the other and in society. Working only with Portuguese stone (marbles, limestone`s and breccia), she also mix it with other media if the idea demands it. The result is very personal way to make art objects that link the tradition of stone carving to other materials and plastic languages.
