Αμφιτρίτη με το δελφίνι (2017-2019) / Amphitrite & Dolphin (2017-2019)
The inspiration for the sculpture was the mythological Amfitryta from Greek mythology. Goddess of the sea, wife of Poseidon. Together with her husband, she exercised power over the seas, while being the personification of the beauty of the sea. She was also able to transform people into sea monsters.
The main attribute of Amfitryta was a dolphin.
In my sculpture, I wanted to capture a fraction of a second that contains her unity with the sea. The beauty of an aquatic creature, but also a beautiful young woman with demonic power, which the wounded can use.
Also not without significance is the form of a dolphin, a mammal being the intermediary between the land and sea world. Creatures that bring happiness to ancient sailors and fear of the wrath of the gods in fishermen when caught.
The installation was made of black steel plate, in technology which I developed from the first figurative sculptures. I set everything on a natural marble pedestal. The amphitheater was created in 2017, dolphin in 2019.
