About The Artwork

Apnea is a series of plexiglass boxes containing layers of underwater photographs printed on transparent acetate sheets. Thanks to the overlapping of the layers, the images seem to melt in a liquid as if they were inside an aquarium. Matter reveals its impermanence becoming ethereal and transparent. Depending on the spectator’s movement, the shapes become more or less defined, emerging from the unambiguous Unity and then returning to it as soon as the point of view changes. The water blends, binds, links, lickes and devours. It is a true adhesive that has the power to unite or modify other elements. It is the primordial fluid from which to differentiate and evolve, and this characteristic is a symbolic element of rebirth and transformation . The light, through the work, projects a bright red halo on the surrounding environment so that the liquid image overcomes the limits imposed on it a priori. The distance between the different photographic layers creates a tridimensional space where the viewer's gaze can enter.
