This boat can represent a sense of journey or exploration. It can evoke a feeling of adventure, a desire to explore new horizons, or a yearning for freedom. It can also be seen as a metaphor for the voyage of life, with storms and calm seas and the need to navigate through uncertain waters. It evokes a sense of nostalgia or longing. A boat can also be a symbol of escape. It can represent a desire to leave behind a troubled past or a difficult present and seek refuge in a new place. 'Ashore' means we made it to the shore after our jearney. This boat is made of stacks of glass sheets, fused together and folded open by hand at 900 degrees Celsius. The stacking and fusing of glass sheets is a technique that I developed myself in the search of threedimensional glass sculptures within glass fusing. It fits snuggly in a twisted set of hedera roots.

As a child, I (1965) would play with caleidoscope for hours, transfixed by the always changing glass like forms. That child-like wonder is my motivation to make my glass sculptures, in order to instill that same wonder in the viewer. Not interested in repeating the same things over and over again, I like to work outside of the box; pushing to enlarge the box. My inspiration is an idea to make three-dimensional glass sculptures using glass fusing as a technique. This resulted first in the development of Stacks, where stacks of glass are fused together. This original technique has since been adopted by many other glass fusers. Wishing to further develop these objects into three dimensions, I took a three-week masterclass in Bavaria (Germany) in 2018. Teacher Matthew Szösz and teacher assistent Anna Mlasowsky, both renowned glass artists, taught me the techniques for inflating and hand folding glass objects. I combine these techniques with my own style to make powerful, yet elegant sculptures.
