Contact us.Brought up in North London, Lawrie Simonson is widely recognised as one of Britain’s foremost avant-garde sculptors. As a child he spent far too much time staring at insects and animals – a habit he never quite grew out of, and one that still fuels his work today.
His delightfully eccentric sculptures are born from objet trouvé liberated on regular raids of automotive scrap yards and flea markets, then cheerfully combined with any kitchen utensil that happens to catch his eye. The results are humorous pieces rooted in serious observations of nature, ranging from a three-metre water bird that looks like it might steal your sandwiches to a tiny chrome spider that could probably outrun most of us.
Lawrie’s public and corporate commissions include Hampton Court Palace, Hainault Forest Country Park, Capel Manor in Enfield and the Oxo Tower. He has exhibited widely across Europe and the UK, and his work now lurks in private collections on both sides of the Atlantic.
