ABOUT THE ARTWORK

These are completely unique and original PMS Mixed Media paintings on canvas. This Triptych is a series within my new series. These paintings and series epitomize a technique and aesthetic I have been working to perfect over the years and takes them to a new level, both literally and figuratively. Themes in my work of construction, deconstruction, vibrant color, form, texture and decay exist in this piece and have been amplified by a new layer of broken down, assembled pieces of wood, that have been painted and constructed into the piece. This adds a wonderful new element of shadow and an idea of breaking the plane of a conventional canvas and frame. I have continued my obsession with incorporating found and recycled materials and assembled them into what I like to think of as a sculptural painting. They are beautiful and rugged and fun to look at from multiple angles and with the changing of light that reflects on the piece. The colors are vibrant and alive and the texture is highly tactile and almost edible. The colors of oil paint streak and mix on the surface and appear to be streaming across the surface in brilliant overlapping and interacting color and create bumps or waves of texture on the surface to give even more depth and intrigue to the pieces. In this particular series, the colors of each piece harmonize beautifully as a triptych. These are unique wall sculptural assembled paintings like nothing you will see elsewhere. Note: These paintings are painted on canvas and assembled reclaimed wood with acrylic, oil and spray paint. They come elegantly, and uniquely framed and hang ready. The collector can arrange them on the wall as he or she chooses. These paintings are signed on the front and includes my Certificate of Authenticity. © 2018 PMS Artwork. All rights reserved.

"My art and life has been a process of moving from darkness into light." - PMS Artist Preston M. Smith (PMS) found himself cross-eyed and with no depth perception as a child. This was the "lens" through which he developed his unique visual perspective of the world, which he now shares as a painter. Before focusing completely on his visual artwork, Preston spent many years developing and expanding his creative mindset by acting professionally, touring and lead singing for a punk/ska band, and writing two novels as well as a collection of poetry and original paintings. All of this experience fed into his ability to access his creative voice and communicate his own experience. Over the years, Preston’s artwork has transitioned from moody pop surrealist paintings into vibrantly colorful, tactile, highly textured and almost "edible" abstract works. His mantra for his abstract work is "color, texture, beauty and decay", and his work and life have been an expression of moving from darkness into light. Preston’s work has been showcased alongside David Lynch and at the Inaugural Purple Ball for President Obama’s Inauguration in 2009, where he was commissioned to paint 12 portraits of the President. Recently, Preston is coming off of a successful Solo Exhibition at ShockBoxx Gallery in Hermosa Beach California and his first two showings at the LA Art Show in Downtown L.A.. His work has also been selected by a panel of curators as a winner in the 1st 2018 ArtSlant Artprize Showcase and has been on display at the world famous La Luz De Jesus Gallery, and in numerous exhibitions throughout Los Angeles and across the country. Preston's work has also been the subject of a documentary short entitled "Negativity To Creativity" and is in more than 500 private collections in 26 countries, as well as in the collections of celebrities such as Ed Harris, Ashley Judd, Josh Lucas, Patricia Arquette and more.
