Butterfly Sculpture

I created a series of 'Metal Morphs', where metal changes into organic shapes, and where the purpose of the metal changes from its intended function. Bolts become scales, threaded wire become legs, metal becomes butterfly. Made of hundreds of metal components like nuts, bolts and washers from 6 different metals, mounted on a PVC sphere. These materials reminded me of Legos, with the same endless possibilities and combinations to create anything I could imagine.

This butterfly was the first sculpture where i experimented with inserting many long pieces in the carrying sphere, creating the wings. This technique later served me well to create the Mandala series.
