About The Artwork

Following the destruction of the second Death Star, the Ewok race went on to worship C3PO in some form or another for generations. When originally created by an Ewok shaman, this piece would have been rather commonplace and not terribly unique. The materials available to the Ewoks were generally quite biodegradable, and most of the piece would decompose naturally, leaving behind the elements which made C3PO who he was in their vision: a benevolent immortal metal deity.  These metal pieces would then be used by subsequent shaman generations in new masks and shields, imbued with recycled and accumulated power from the masks which came before it. Therefore, due to the biodegradable nature of the base material of Endorian Redwood, surviving masks and shields such as this one are exceedingly rare.  My research indicates the application of this mask was similar to that of a mezuzah scroll, hung in or near an entryway for protection. Pieces such as this were often anointed with sacred X-wing oil on the holiday of Waska-cha-a-eeeeeeeeee-bath, the annual celebration honoring the end of the second death star. This particular mask was discovered by a young boy who became separated from his family for 17 days while vacationing in Death Valley, CA in 1952.  It turns out his odds of survival were 12,545,223 to 1.  Some in the community have attributed his survival to the shield itself.  I was lucky enough to come across the mask at a garage sale in Bakersfield.  The seller clearly had no idea what she possessed, and mostly talked my ear off about how glad she was to get "all this crap out of the house" while her husband was on a golf tour of Las Vegas with friends from his Rotary Club. Little known fact: Ewok lifespan averaged 3-5 years, although some lived as old as 12 years. Rumored to be true, but who knows: C3PO generally disliked being called "3PO" because he thought it made him sound cheap. There was the 3DL, an early model of communication bot which was supposed to be affordable to the average user, but was really just junk. C3PO, proud of being a custom built model, thought "3PO" sounded too much like "3DL".   However, since C3PO was awkward and had tremendous difficulty in social settings, he was grateful to have any friends at all, and would have taken much worse abuse than merely to have his friends drop his first letter. The best day of C3PO's existence was the day Han Solo came home all relaxed from a long vacation with Leia.  When he saw C3PO, Han put his hands out and said, "Hey! Good to see you, ya walking brass chandelier.'' And he actually gave C3PO a hug. As he felt Han's body heat, embracing his own metal carapace, C3PO would have given anything to have been able to close his own eyes and melt, just for a moment.
