About The Artwork

CARBON COPY - paper mache`, wire, plaster and coiled Paper anatomical sculpture. Evolutionary step, I have been dreaming of making larger pieces with my coiled paper and this is the very first study of my abilities in this direction. I chose to duplicate my daughter’s face, maybe because my children are beautiful and I wish to immortalize them as much in my art, as I have in my photography in the past. I am proud of this piece, it was a labor of tedious love and incessant coiling but it is where I want it to be. I made a cast of her face and built the scull out of paper mache` in pieces and incorporated it to the sculpture, the neck and shoulders also were built in pieces out of paper mache` and I added strips of fabric for strength. I stuffed the interior shell with newspaper and sealed it all in. I then proceeded to cover her face with music paper to represent her musicality. I love to give my pieces an intense three dimensionality so I alter the coils to different densities, open and closed coils, manually manipulate them to concave and have randomly added some tightly rolled paper for further tactile feel. I painted her eyes with acrylic and gave her an amber wash for warmth and covered her face with encaustic for protection.

I am a multi-disciplinary artist focused on marrying traditional and nontraditional materials into a curious narrative of harvested materials. I compose works from everyday scraps, forging a story from what we leave behind. I find life in what others find useless. My Satisfaction comes from observing the natural reaction from the viewer of the possibilities...
