A friend facilitated an opportunity for me to observe the sex workers and their associates. Each figure is a character I studied during that time. The resulting sculptures are an ongoing series that began during the mid-1990’s. Each figure I create myself from Herculite and then ‘dress’, using mosaic, ostrich eggshell (found in the Karroo desert) and/or mirror, paint (including glow), treated rolled lead, gems and found objects. All this creates an encrusted patina with individuality, ultimately forming the character of each piece. This is an on-going series, now focusing on the celebrities in life.
