About The Artwork

'20th and 21st C. shamans would perform ritual tasks such as curing sickness, bringing rain or ensuring hunting success, among others. This staff was a ceremonial object used by shaman in a ritual designed to bring an abundance of the fossil fuels that their civilisation ran on.' A cultural Artefact of great anthropological significance, taken from the ruins of a once-great civilisation, which thrived at the turn of the 3rd Milenium AD, this Ceremonial Staff has been restored and placed in a museum vitrine by a fictional archeologist from the year 3022, in an effort to understand the practices and beliefs of its people. The hand-carved Ceremonial object, adorned with sea-shells and inscribed with a shell insignia in brightly coloured pigments, found on numerous Artefacts discovered from that time, played a key part in a rite involving fossil fuel extraction, which was central to their culture, and performed by shamans who were highly respected leaders of their society.
