"Images are forms of virtual, projected, embodied material woven with time." Mari Amman (b. 1984) was born and raised in Illinois with a forest preserve, nuclear power plant, and industrial agriculture as her backyard. Early philosophical inquiries led to dedicating time to musical, dance, and artistic pursuits. She has lived in Norway since 2015 and frequently travels for work. Sublime aesthetics and allegory mark her work and collaborations. Images, installations, poetry, performance, sculpture, and artistic research bring forth a sense of geological and humanitarian empathy with focus on the parietal aspects of perception, sparking inquiry into proposed divides between the virtual and real, imaginary and embodied vision. Her research methods informed ÆSTHETIC RESONANCES, Pattern Recognition, Visual Literacy, and Body Architecture. Her award-winning work is held in private and public collections, including Art Farm Iowa (US, 2023) and Arte Expuesto (MX, 2023). Afjordance was included in AWMAS (UCSB, 2020) Monolithic image and text, Omniscient, was awarded 1st in the Imaging New Eurasia exhibition in Gwangju (SK, 2015). She was a poet and artist in residence in Paris (FR, 2023), Bonny Doon (US, 2022), Kjerringøy Land Art (NO, 2020), Angelot-Trélex (CH, 2019), Praksis Oslo, Praxisdansfestivalen (NO, 2017). Degreed and studied with honors: MFA (2015), BA (2006), History, Interior Design, Butoh, Photography, and Social Psychology in Illinois, Japan, Norway.
