ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This is a wood-fired ceramic vase with a tiger image carved onto the surface. The vase was thrown by potter Robbie Teasdale of Pax Pottery, and the image was carved by artist Jonathan Clark of Barefoot Royals Studio, using sgraffito techniques. It was raw fired with a tenmoku glaze to create the orange effect on the tiger. "Chui Milia" means 'leopard striped' in Swahili. This is a one-of-a-kind collaborative piece and was fired in Roger Jamison's Anagama kiln in Juliette, Georgia.
