About The Artwork

D'Orizza is a colorful mixed media plaster cast. The story behind it is a combination of a racehorse Zenyatta and a farm horse Dorica from my father's youth they had for working in the fields before tractors replaced horses. I have always been in love with horses and had some sort of romantic perception about them but my father always said there's nothing romantic about them when your livelihood depends on them. Anyhow, I decided to make a series of "Doricas" and make each cast unique. This one is a combination with Zenyatta, the infamous racehorse with a very successful racing career. I took her Adidas-like socks and added golden excrement behind her since I believe Zenyatta brought some big money to the breeders. In a way, Dorica did as well, or at least she brought the food on the table for that matter.

Lara Ješe is an artist living and working in Kranj, Slovenia. She holds an MFA in Painting and Fine Arts, acquired at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. She has also studied at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig, expanding her knowledge in the fields of Graphic Printing. Growing up in the countryside near Kranj, Slovenia, she found her artistic interest in animals, particularly horses and cattle, which became a recurrent subject in her work. The motif allows her to explore the balance between portraiture and figure, in other words between psyche and the flesh, and to research the body within allegorical situations.
