About The Artwork

This piece, so powerful with its surprising contrast between lightness and heaviness, agility and slowness, fully represents the style of Matteo Lo Greco. This is his most appreciated and heartfelt work, and this is why the Artist has analyzed and evolved it in different editions, similar but every time different. Matteo has always represented themes such as love, friendship, tenderness, sweetness, warmth of family and motherhood, incorporating such deep and dense themes within his works. It is natural to ask oneself the origin of these forms, and the answer lies in the origins: Matteo was born in Sicily, and in his Art shows the nature of the population of that island, so good and kind, with an enormous heart. These values are common to all of humanity, and this is why his works involve and excite anyone who shares those principles. It is not a simple or immediate art, but this is its main strength: as the days, months and years go by, continuously contemplating these works, the universal message is always better and deeper understood. The more you admire them, the more you appreciate them. The message that Art wants to transmit is neither simple nor superficial, so even the works can not be such. Matteo has always been devoted to the legendary lost wax technique, which for years has been using and perfecting, completing the work with a patina every time unique and inimitable, with fascinating shades of color. Look with the heart, not with the eyes.

Matteo Lo Greco was born in Sicily in 1949. After graduating in Political Science at the University of Palermo, he moved to Lisbon, Portugal, to study at the Academy of Fine Arts. Pupil of the portuguese sculptor Antonio Duarte and the painter Hilario Teixeira Lopes, became “Official Member” of the National Society of Fine Arts of Portugal. The Museum of Contemporary Art in Mirandela, in 1982, opened with his expositions; his works still belong to the standing collection of the Museum. He took part in many collective and individual exhibitions in Italy, United States of America and Europe, especially in France, where he entered the tradition of the Paris’ showrooms (MAC2000, Gran Palais). In 1999 he received the Silver Medal of the City of Palermo. In July 2004 an individual exhibition of Matteo Lo Greco took place at the Ca’ Pesaro International Modern Art Gallery in Venice, entitled “L’ Aoristico – Sculture e disegni di Matteo Lo Greco”. Since 2005 he is the Founder and President of the Association Artisti Spa+A . Fascinated by the oriental culture, he travels often to China, where he made a serie of individual exhibitions in Shanghai and Beijing. He was also invited to showcase his sculptures during the preparation of the Universal Expo of 2010 in Shanghai. Now he lives and works in Venice, where he has his Art Gallery in the city centre and a studio in Lido. In 2017 he opened a new studio in Tuscany, in Pietrasanta, so now he has three different studios. His sculptures are now in collections all over the world.
