Immersion in the history of various civilizations, as well as penetration into the culture of other peoples, through the study of their heritage is one of the ways to travel through time and space. The sculpture "The Last Inca" is a reflection on the fragility of our civilization, on the frailty of our world. The history of mankind consists of the histories of many civilizations that existed on different continents. The Inca Empire is just one such story. This empire no longer exists, and after all, once it was so powerful that its representatives probably thought that it would be so at all times. I really want to hope that the history of disappeared civilizations will teach humanity to take care of each other, to take care of the planet on which we live and everything that this planet gives us. When we got acquainted with the culture of the indigenous peoples of America, we wanted to make a series of works based on their myths, and decorative and applied arts. “The Last Inca” is one of these works.

Aleksandr Sysoev I was born in 1961, started working with ceramics professionally in 1993. Since then I can’t imagine life without it! Working with clay gives me indescribable feelings. The ‘dialogue’ with this wonderful material is always interesting and fascinating. And the fact that fire turns clay into an everlasting material, the ceramics, still mesmerizes me. Ethnic style is closer to me, in work I feel a special pleasure with pottery wheel formation and free sculpting. I like experimenting with various ceramic techniques. The main lines of my art are Reduction Firing in Pottery, ceramic sculpture and making tiles.
