Art Description

Sculpture: Acrylic, Resin clay, Metal on Wood.

My mixed media sculptures combine influences of the expressionist and surrealist genres, employing biomorphic distortion and exaggeration in order to express the vitality and movement of the subject. Here the amount of representation serves as a structural ground so the viewer and myself have an anchor in realism from which we may explore the imaginary. From there I distort, elongate, exaggerate or exclude forms in order to explore the functional and visual uses of anatomy. Forms are thus chosen based on the amount of visual pleasure and expression they can serve. My hope for this work is to express or record my experiences in their exuberance, anxiety, hopelessness, joy and piece, folly and purpose, and it’s consistent energy and inertia in the steady but unpredictable movement of life.
