About The Artwork
I had two columns of Elm which I kept for about 12 years until they were seasoned, having a different sculpture in mind. They had warped, so I made use of that to make two teetering, diverging columns of books. It was some years before I found a suitable block of (Wych) Elm to make the base. The red stain was applied intuitively. It gave the right 'weight' to the carving.
