Be the center of attention when you wear this vivid statement necklace in red, gold, pale blue, and bronze glass beads! A vintage red and gold glass cameo is backed in black leather, framed in a woven beadwork bezel, and suspended at the center of four supple Right Angle Weave chains in bronze and iridescent red seed beads. Below the cameo, a lower dichroic glass cabochon adds bright blue-green accents. Luster-finished round glass beads (repurposed from an old Avon design) stud the second-lowest chain, while ruby-red glass navette beads fringe the outermost beaded chain. Topmost chain (nearest the neck) hangs at about 20”, while the outer chain is about 30” long. The back of the necklace is equally elaborate, with a hand-beaded toggle clasp, a square beadwoven loop, and wide Gourd-stitch finials gathering the four chains. When I finished this piece in 2017, one friend promptly christened it ‘The Dragonfire Cameo’, while another said it looked like an Art Nouveau designer got a look at Tony Stark’s favorite colors. It’s not for the faint-of-heart, but its red-gold glow can add a powerful statement to any outfit from a peasant shirt to a little black dress. This necklace will be shipped in a padded box to prevent breakage in transit.

I create art under the name Marian Crane (go ahead, I'm immune to the inevitable jokes because I adore Hitchcock movies.) I write and blog under the names Crane Hana, M. Crane Hana, and M. C. Hana (but they're all me, really.) I was born in northwestern New Mexico, and grew up surrounded by the spectacular landscapes, colors, and cultural blends of the American Southwest. My mixed-media paintings, fiber collages, wearable art, jewelry, and book art sculptures are inspired by my love of history, science, folk art, myth, and invention. I am fascinated with the human tendency to mix ornament and function. Since I’m a theatrical prop and artifact geek, too, I love making objects that appear as if they came out of a ‘real’ fantasy or science-fiction culture.
