Drone Comb 1 Sculpture

This is my first work in my 'Hive Mind' series that uses the dimensional wood scrap construction technique. Creating the rhythm with the cell structure brought with it a whole new level of appreciation for what a bee colony does everyday. I enjoyed the final effect of the light on the comb falling off to the left, leaving that area to be more tone on tone. This piece needs to be mounted on a wall that is a quiet neutral color, and to have lots of spaces on the wall around to be left open. It is already good sized and the freeform nature of its outline seems to demand room to breathe. The backing board is ½ plywood, so the piece is quite light weight and easy to hang from the d-rings on the back (or alternately use the French cleat that is mounted to the back). A light weight crate will be needed in order to ship it outside the region, if the buyer lives outside of the Puget Sound basin.
