As a ceramic artist, I find myself wrestling with the question of where craft ends and fine art begins? Or who is the artist and who is the artisan? This tension has driven my practice toward what I call "futilitarian vessels" – nonutilitarian forms that deliberately confound their own purpose. My f...

Born in Tehran, Iran in 1985, I discovered my love for painting as a child, though family wisdom steered me toward the practical world of engineering. While my father cautioned that art held no future, my fascination with workshops and factories made mechanical engineering seem like a natural fit. However, office work filled with endless calculations wasn't the hands-on experience I had envisioned. Fifteen years ago, I made my first journey abroad to South Korea, where I was captivated by Far Eastern culture. For two years, I worked on building ports, This led me to the Netherlands, where I spent five years in shipbuilding, My professional journey continued in London, where I managed extensive oil and gas projects. Over the years, I earned three degrees in hydromechanics and marine management, establishing myself as a skilled engineer in the maritime industry. Despite professional success, my childhood passion for creating with my hands never faded. During the pandemic, I returned to Iran to study under master craftsmen, learning the ancient art of pottery. Back in London, I invested in my own kiln and wheel, though demanding work schedules left little time for practice or learning. In 2024, after years of balancing two worlds, I resigned, started self educating myself. This is a long journey and I am at the beginning of it, I am full of dreams and I wish to achieve my artistic aspirations. As an autodidactic ceramic artist emerging by exploration, I'm working to identify leitmotifs in my work while building technical proficiency across various ceramic processes. Nature stands at the heart of my creative practice, not merely as subject matter but as both our fundamental habitat and our most profound healer. I am deeply moved by our intricate relationship with the natural world—how it sustains us, teaches us, and offers solace when human-made environments fail to nourish our spirits. My work seeks to honor this connection. Whether through direct representation or subtle incorporation of natural elements, encouraging a sense of stewardship and wonder for the world that continues to heal us. I focus on material efficiency by reclaiming clay scraps and planning kiln loads to maximise energy use. I don’t use wasteful methods such as glazing using a spray booth.
