About The Artwork

The "Encounter on the Pink Rock" is part of the series "When Shadows Danced". The series consists of 10 artworks. Each one of them is made from wood and comes with it's on ceramic lamp. In Greece, where I come from, Shadow Theater is a big part of our culture and every one of us has some child memories from a shadow performance. With these artworks I wanted to explore the limits of shadow but also to create a connection with my childhood. Each one of them has a different story from behind. The "Encounter on the Pink Rock" represents this moment at the end of a party where everyone is there but everyone is alone.

I like painting and engraving. I also really like to combine them. Most of my work starts with a linocut block. I make multiple different prints of it and then I start to play with them. Some of them will be paintend above, some others will be the reason to start a total new work, a sculpture or an installation and in the end they (the prints) will probably disappear. The ability of repetition in printmaking and also the ability of creating a new image from the same block is something that really amazes me. It seems like telling a story again and again from a different point of view.
