This piece was inspired by an old penny that was defaced by the Suffragettes and now housed in the British Museum. The slogan, 'VOTES FOR WOMEN' has been stamped across the face of King Edward VII. I updated the idea after seeing the film, Made in Dagenham (2010) when I realised that the Equal Pay Act was made over forty years ago. On average, women's salaries are still 17% below that of their male counterparts in the UK. Each 50 pence piece is stamped with the slogan, 'EQUAL PAY FOR WOMEN' one letter at a time across the face of the queen. One of my coins is held by the British Museum, London. Others have been circulated to raise awareness. Check your change! This is an ongoing unlimited series. Each coin is unique.
