ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Watch VIDEO on YouTube This original quartzite sculpture is one of the latest artworks of the talented Bulgarian contemporary professional sculptor Ognyan Chitakov, deeply inspired by organic abstract expressionism, postmodernism and geometry. Quartzite is the hardest one of all rocks, and just like marble it is a metamorphic rock, which was originally pure quartz sandstone. The artist's concept is to create with this most hard stone material various abstract landscapes of common places on Earth, rich in this beautiful and extremely hard stone material. Errigal is a mountain near Gweedore in County Donegal in Ireland. It is the most southern, steepest and highest of the mountain chain, called the "Seven Sisters". The name comes from the Old Irish airecal, meaning "oratory", so it refers to the mountain as a place of prayer and solitude. Now areas of quartzite are found all across Errigal as the most prominent outcrop, dating its formation back in the ancient Laurentia continent (nowadays North America, Greenland, Ireland, Island and big part of Scandianvia), assembled on a network of Early Proterozoic orogenic belts, forming the stable Precambrian craton as seen today. The unique sculptural spacial form is carved in this amazing quartzite rock with the help of an extraordinary maze of carvings and details, leaving the feeling of airiness and lightness in this very ancient rock piece. The artwork is one amazing solid stone masterpiece and exquisite modern home décor.

Ognyan Chitakov is a contemporary professional Bulgarian fine art sculpture artist. He has master degree of education at the National Academy of Arts in Sofia. He lives and works in the beautiful Bulgarian town of Asenovgrad, where his home and studio are based. Sculpture is his main way of thinking, his way of communication, his way of living and his complex look at life. Sculpture gives him the freedom to create and makes his ideas visible. He loves sculpture because it gathers all in him - form, space, function, architecture, design, engineering, technology and above all Art – both fine and sculptural. Among all materials used to shape sculptures his passion lies in stone. Stone is ancient and sacred, and it is already part of his nature. Ognyan Chitakov is nationally famous now for his extra large figurative solid stone sculptures, abstract statues and geometric monuments, which can be seen in many galleries, banks and public places all over the country. Most of his artworks are already part of private collections in Western Europe, Middle East and the U.S.A. "The stone material is alive and has a soul. I never ignore it and its gravity as well. I try to give each artwork the feeling of lightness." Ognyan Chitakov
