Europa Sculpture

Friends of mine know i do a lot of my work listening to the evening / early morning news on the radio. l like NPR and "all things considered." - but particularly CBC's "As it happens" (Corny Jokes 😂) - and BBC Radio 3. When i started this piece a couple years ago - i was listening late into the night about Brexit, The Pandemic hitting Europe, Russia bullying and interference in US democratic procedure, the refugee crisis, questions about Russia's involvement in Ethereum, racism in UK football, etc etc (etc) . I wanted to create a strong, simplified , and Iconic image of Hope for Europe and The World - and the inexplicable nature of connections between all people and countries. Human beings we are terrible at getting along. absoulutely dreadful. Usually operating from Our base instincts rather higher faculties...but we do Love each other, and it doesn't matter if we get along - we are inextricably Bound to each other, so it behooves people to try and Transcend and make it work! The best we can hope for in Our Dysfunctional Animalistic hard wiring is to build more than We Destroy, Help more than We Harm, Heal more than we Hurt. Inevitably we destroy, hurt, and harm each other. Often despite all Our efforts to not to. But if the balance sheet of Our Life shows a heavy lean towards the building, helping, and healing - what greater success could One Hope for in Life? One of the functions of Art, in my opinion is to convey a message that transcends the myopia of Politics and seeks to distill a greater Truth. Beauty is not a trend in the Contemporary Art Bubble. But it has always been a trend in mine ~~~ In the Immortal words of my friend Julie who is a Carer ("Caregiver" here in the states.) : "Be Kind. Just be Kind."
