Art Description

Sculpture: Metal on Steel.

A contemporary sculpture in metal, representing birds in flight.
"Flying Home" is part of the Migration series I have been exploring extensively .
I made several sculptures related to birds (both in clay and in in metal) and a mural at the Homeless Shelter in Des Moines CISS, based on the poem of Emily Dickinson “Hope is the thing with feathers”.

I have a strong admiration for birds, for their freedom of movement, for their ability to see the world from different perspectives, their ability to adapt to the environment.

I love the change of the seasons and with it, the migration of birds each year – flying away to warmer places, traveling great distances above oceans.
There is something very powerful in the image of a flock of birds flying together,
hundreds, thousands of individuals
a mass of birds, taking over the sky, like a graceful performance, a ballet
creating this wonderful pattern in the sky.

taking over the silence with their sound.

It is not only the journey of birds:
it is also about the seasons and the passage of time, the journey of people,
and my own journey, as my husband and I became an American ciitizen recently and have been reflecting about my own journey and migration .

It is poetry,
melancholy...

It can be placed inside or outside and will add character to any space.
