Figurative Vessel I, 12 x 7 inches. Deconstruction/Reconstruction, finding new form, stoneware kintsugi technique. This figurative vessel broke during the firing process. Part of my series on the Folded Female embracing the broken, the flaws and marks left behind, as scars or lifelines. By repairing this piece, it becomes more beautiful, finding strength and beauty in the broken, the vulnerable, the essence of resilience. I enjoyed the process of Kintsugi, the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold — built on the idea that by embracing flaws and imperfections, you can create an even stronger, more beautiful piece of art. Loved collaborating with my artist friend Marilyn Dale who gave me her thrown clay vessel allowing me to take her apart and put her back together. This intuitive process of deconstructing and constructing allowing the piece to find new form.
