Microplastic. Something familiar from the headlines that often seem too sad to read? I am designer and co-founder of sustainable design studio. At the moment I'm capable of processing 5 types of plastic. It’s a polypropylene, 2 types of a polyethylene, a polylactide and an acrylonitrile butadiene styrene. The aim of the project is to make out-of-use raw materials become processable again. I am focused on the manufacture, as well as on experiments with new materials, zero waste philosophy and the rethinking of plastic waste. I melt sheets of recycled plastic for designing. One of these days I took out a plastic fish, it had scales and color. I saw the finished work. Microplastics are small plastic pieces which can be harmful to our planet. But they are invisible to us. We don’t understand much about microplastics. Scientists have found microplastics in many aquatic species, and half of those ends up on dinner plates. This sculpture consists of plastic waste that has formed into fish. Who knows, maybe a real fish will look like that pretty soon.
