Football Sculpture

The Football, inspired by the Buckminster Fuller 'Bucky Balls' in Chemistry, over 400 screws placed in a geometric pattern. The ball is very tactile, surprisingly heavy and fun to fidget with. It is perfectly spherical, has a very smooth surface, and has a lot of momentum once it is rolling. This art is a game and a toy as well as eye candy. It is two of a kind in this color scheme, with a gold-black twin of identical design and size (for sale here as well: Vuiton Football). This is the only copy for sale as I will keep one for myself. The design challenge was enormous - the pattern may be symmetrical but it is impossible to cut out a 2D pattern and make a sphere of it. In the end I combined cut-outs of penta- and hexagons with handsfree sketching directly on to the PVC carrier sphere. Once the first sculpture was all finished I couldn't put it down, fidgeted with it for hours, and actually laid it on my pillow next to me as I went to sleep.
