ABOUT THE ARTWORK

From the Oods series of sculptures. Oods are a series of small sculptures created to mark uckiood’s 10 year anniversary. Composed of resin, urethane, wood, plaster, steel and LEDs, they both constitute a culmination of techniques and ideas explored in Kim and Missy’s previous I’MPERFECT and Odd Jelly Out cycles of work, as well as signaling a distinct pivot in scale, style, form and character. In keeping with Kim and Missy’s desire to create a highly integrated body of work - and their overarching aim to create a holistic artistic vision of the Odd Jelly Out world in its entirety - these tiny objects represent the first phase in the conception of the imagined landscape/space in which the OJO and I’MPERFECT characters inhabit and interact.

Founded in 2011, uckiood is the studio of Swedish-American and British artists, Kim Rask and Missy Douglas. Missy is a former tutor of art history and fine art, holding a M.A. (Cantab) and Ph.D in History of Art from the University of Cambridge, UK. Kim is an alumnus of the University of Washington with a background in animation, sound and design. With initial bases in Brussels, Belgium and New York City, they immediately made a profound impact with their striking, bold - and often divisive - portfolio. They now work out of their Seattle studio, creating mixed-media sculpture and installations. Fueled by a strong desire to create moments of childlike wonder in everyday life, their single and multi-piece works use the visual language of childhood to reconnect with, and fully explore, the emotions and memories of the little people they - and you - once were. Under the aegis of uckiood, Missy & Kim have exhibited across the US and Europe in both solo and group shows, and their work has been selected for long-term and permanent public art placement. They have secured a wide range of festival and large event contracts, and have collaborated with government bodies, non-profit organizations and prominent corporate clients such as Facebook and Amazon. Their award-winning work is held in high-profile, private and public collections across the world. It has been featured in major news and culture/lifestyle publications such as BBC World News & Radio, The Independent (UK), Vogue (NL), designboom, My Modern Met, Psychology Today, Shanghai Daily, The Stranger, PublicDisplay.ART and Athens Voice, as well as being the subject of a 2018 webMD documentary and a 2021 Shine News podcast. They are currently on the ArtsWA Washington State Public Art Roster. Awards & Honors: 2023. Juror’s Award,10 x Tieton, Tieton WA 2022. Honoraria Artist Award, Burning Man Project 2015. UK GDST Alumna of the Year Award (Nomination) 2014. US National Council of Behavioral Health Award of Excellence (Nomination)
