The inspiration for my work comes from the local landscape and the toll it has taken on the objects. Each work I create is nature -themed be it the sky or the water. The vessels are both wheel thrown and hand built and the surface is a combination of slips and glazes. Each mark, tear, tool impression has a story to tell. The play of the forces of nature on objects has a story to tell and my intention is that each mark on my vessels should reflect this. Clay gives me the ability to manipulate , press, tear and make changes to express what I am feeling. it gives me the freedom to flow with TIME - that never stops. My work is all in stoneware and is high fired to 1280C and I use both glazes , oxides and vitreous slips.

“It is not easy finding your true passion or meaning of your life. Neither is it exceedingly difficult!” As a potter and an artist, I know this is true. Once I met clay, it all became clear. My dialogue with clay and the rhythm of throwing on the wheel makes me feel centred and whole. The magic of clay inspires me to accept the imperfections in nature and embrace irregularities as a way of life. Being mindful of the moment, and creating art, is what makes me complete. While growing up in India I was surrounded by a lot of handmade pottery - Surahi’s, Matki’s, Martabans. These organic works transcend into my practice as shapes, forms, and textures. The matt surfaces, neutral subtle palette of my work transports me to the forgotten land where weathering of buildings and objects was always evident and accepted. Weathering and the marks of age fascinate me. My work is contemporary with an ancient feel. It is minimalistic, classic, modern, and plural, and when placed in the right environment it adds harmony to the space. I endeavour is to lift the ordinary to extraordinary and make functional a piece of art. My work celebrates the simplicity and the versatility of life and clay. “Pottery is my passion and my raison d’tre.” My journey has just begun….
