From spoon to mouth Sculpture

I found the spoon in the mud of the foreshore in Newlyn, Cornwall. It is possibly Victorian and from a time when many people involved in the fishing industry spent a lot of their time on the foreshore, which due to the lower sea levels was bigger then. The plastic animal I sourced on Ebay and treated it with a blow torch. The floorboard is from an industrial warehouse in the road next to mine, which was being restored and the floor removed. These items coalesce in my studio and eventually I find a way of putting them together. They are put together in a way that is aesthetic but my practice is primarily concerned with animals and their treatment by humans. We have a responsibility to the other species we share this planet with to improve their lot. I use the word humanimal to encompass my approach to art making. I consider this work to be an assemblage. It can be hung on a wall or sit flat on a surface. I have fitted 2 loops and brass headed nails, all are reuse or found so as to limit any impact on the environment. I have photographed it on the black wall of my studio.
