Great White Shark Fin, Nicole Sculpture

In 2003 a great white shark was tagged off the coast of South Africa, 99 days later she was tracked to Western Australia, then in 2004 she resurfaced back in Gansbaai, South Africa. The nine month journey of nearly 14,000 miles revolutionised our understanding of these largely illusive predators, and earned the shark the nickname 'Nicole'. With the help of the very scientists who studied Nicole's journey I've created an exact size and shape sculpture of her dorsal fin. Standing just under 50cm tall this life size sculpture is made from recycled steel and is appropriately mounted in a base of recycled Australian hardwood. All handmade with painstaking attention to detail in terms of size and shape this striking fin is a thought provoking piece.
