Grid Sculpture

Grid is a handwoven tapestry, stretched over a wooden frame. The fabric is woven entirely from salvaged, post-consumer plastics; a variety of polypropylene and polycarbonates. It presents a bold vision of colour and lines from afar, with curious details up close. Grid reflects on the complexity and variety of our global interconnection. The repurposing of a ubiquitous material that plays a central role in our global patterns of trade to revision value. A personal layer of meaning emerged through this work as I am starting to explore my Scottish ancestry through considering tartan patterns as points of departure for contemporary textiles. My works weave layers of the past and present to present the potential to reimagine our individual and collective histories.
