Conceptual Essence Narrative Expressionist (CENE) Pioneer Artist Contemporary Turkish Master Artist Award-Winning Artist • Grand Artist Award Winner • First Turkish Female Naval Artist MFA in Painting – Marmara University Exhibited Internationally • Works in Global Private Collections Göknil Gümüş Sungurtekin (b. 1977, Istanbul, Turkey) is an internationally recognized contemporary artist and the founder of Conceptual Essence Narrative Expressionism (CENE)—a research-driven artistic orientation integrating intuitive painting, conceptual inquiry, and narrative structures. Her work has been selected for three Saatchi Art curated collections: “New This Week” (Chief Curator Rebecca Wilson), “Art for the Sanctuary Maker” (Assistant Curator Will Hardy), and “International Spotlight: Turkey” (Curatorial Director Erin Remington). Her practice explores consciousness, memory, feminine energy, transformation, and the subconscious. Within CENE, painting functions as both an expressive and investigative medium, bridging personal experience with psychological, philosophical, and collective dimensions. Her visual language is defined by vivid color, dynamic brushwork, and symbolic layering, oscillating between abstraction and figuration. Each work emerges from an inner momentum where emotion, intuition, and memory are translated into layered visual narratives. In her approach, color functions as frequency and gesture becomes a carrier of energy and meaning. Sungurtekin has exhibited internationally in Istanbul, Berlin, Madrid, and Busan. She was recognized as a Top 10 World Artist (2023) and Top 60 World Artist (2024) by the Busan International Environmental Art Festival (BIEAF), where she serves on the Steering Committee and has been appointed Co-Chair for 2026. In 2004, she was honored as Turkey’s first female naval artist, serving as an Honorary Major aboard the TCG Salih Reis frigate. This experience became the foundation of her Wardroom and Rope series. Alongside her artistic practice, she is the founder of Fogart Artist Studio (2000–present), where she has mentored over 100 students accepted into leading international art institutions. She is also co-founder of the Art For Good Project, a philanthropic initiative integrating art with education, environmental awareness, and community development. For Sungurtekin, art is both expression and discovery—a continuous process of transformation, reflection, and alignment with inner essence.
