Happy the Javelina Sculpture

Happy came to me from an estimated 100 year old mesquite tree. After a study of the raw burl, I could see a small trotting javelina hidden in the bark and limbs. The bark was removed by the age old method of burning. After removing charred material, and sculpturing the limbs, the impression of a javelina appeared. The remaining burl was hollowed out to create a bowl. The bowl interior was painted with acrilic paint and finished with a clear resin coat. The exterior was sanded to 2000 grit and received a natural oil rubbed finish. The exterior is darker than natural, due to the burning. Happy is intended for display, but can also be used as a vessel for party condiments.
