Inspired by my childhood relationship with horses. I hope the viewer will feel the nobility of the horse and its vital relationship to the spatial west. The stretched quality impresses a perspective of always in-the-distance from the viewer.

Born in 1961, Francis Fox grew up in rural Wyoming and has lived most of his adult life in the Rocky Mountain American West. His perspective has been deeply influenced by a raw exposure to the rural West's dramatic land, weather, and extant lifestyle.  Fox received his M.F.A. degree from the University of Wyoming in 1997 and a minor degree in Geology/Geophysics in 1985. Beyond his formal education, he gained a range of sculpture skills and professional experience by working in several art-related fields including 5 years at Shidoni Art Foundry near Santa Fe, NM. In 2011-2012 Fox was awarded an Arts and Humanities Fellowship to research 3D-digital technologies. His current studio practice combines digital processes with traditional metal casting techniques to create sculptures that exploit the physicality of form and materials to confront viewers with a connection to the natural world. They also encourage a viewer to experience preverbal feelings about growth processes and to consider ideas of origin and potential.
