These heads remain disproportionate and out of date. They are at the same time stateless, universal and undoubtedly the reflection of my memories of travels in Africa, the Americas and Europe. Since Alice Desert can remember, Alice has felt the urge to transform the material world, to innovate, to create her own world. Although, she begins her artistic path with photography, the photo printing in laboratory allowed her to transform the reality. Alice then studied in Perugia, Italy, where she picked up the paint brushes for the first time through incentive from her teacher that encouraged her to experiment with colour. For studies Alice moved to Paris while simultaneously attending evening classes in Montparnasse. She frequented also other artistic studios and workshops that helped her find her style. After ten years of corporate working, she decided to further her formal education in the Beaux Arts of Versailles. There she learned new techniques and interacted with other artists, which allowed her to develop her creative abilities. Alice kept up her nomad lifestyle, moving to San Francisco, then to Lisbon. These moves are reflected in her work, which was influenced by the dynamics and defining traits of these regions. The past 25 years have been spent in projects involving painting as well as ceramics. She experiments with different materials, plays with shapes and nuances, and makes techniques her own. She uses her intuition as a guide to her creations and embraces the random to create harmonious designs. She employs materials to make colour and composition come through.
