The idea behind this sculpture is as old as history. The images of a pieta are many in religious environments. Is there a more painful and terrible thing that can happen in a woman's life than loosing her child? On the news we see images like this from all over the world. I wanted this pieta situated in the now, bare, without decorations, just the outline of a female figure. And in her strong hands and arms she holds her dead child, like an offering. Her posture looks like an accusation. Why? The gold is flowing like tears, like blood.

What inspires me is day to day life, people, nature, music, dance. I process these experiences into forms in a broad variety of materials. One of my favourite topics is The Fragility of Life, particularly from a feminine point of view. Born in the Netherlands, studied and lived in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Since 1992 living and working in Maastricht and Heerlen.
